The term “software multitenancy” refers to a software architecture in which a single instance of software runs on a server and serves multiple tenants. Systems designed in such manner are often called shared (in contrast to dedicated or isolated). A tenant is a group of users who share a common access with specific privileges to the software instance. With a multitenant architecture, a software application is designed to provide every tenant a dedicated share of the instance – including its data, configuration, user management, tenant individual functionality and non-functional properties.
On our last blog post we’ve addressed our multitenant architecture from a Partner’s point of view, today we’re going to showcase the key advantages our subscription owners can benefit from this model.
One Subscription, Multiple Web Apps
As an OMNIA Subscription owner, you get full access to our development platform with very few limits, one of them being the number of web applications you can have available simultaneously (development tenants don’t affect the limit). Depending on your subscription you’ll be able to have up to 5 independent web applications on the same subscription. Here’s how it works:
Web Application URL: yoursubscription.com
Web App 1 URL: yoursubscription.com/webapp1
Web App 2 URL: yoursubscription.com/webapp2
Web App 3 URL: yoursubscription.com/webapp3
This simple yet powerful architecture allows for a range of very useful use cases, like these two examples listed bellow:
– Different isolated systems for the same company: develop multiple different enterprise applications (CRM, HR, etc) and keep them separate, within the same subscription;
– Shared enterprise services: centralized and shared services for employee self-service usage (Human Resources , Sales, etc).
In summary, the most important quality of this architecture is the freedom it allows to configure your subscription(s) to your specific scenario.
